My Mother and Father and I and my family have traveled along this historic highway since the 1920s. You could say it's in our blood. Every time I travel through this country, I can picture my ancestors, who were pioneers from Europe in the mid-1800s. They crossed the hot, dry sands of the deserts, forded rivers such as the treacherous Virgin River, traveled through blinding snowstorms on icy mountain roads and left written records of their experiences. Indians, traders, trappers and priests explored the area before the pioneers arrived.
My son, Andrew, traveled several summers with me and experienced many of the same feelings I have had. He used his creative artistic talents in each chapter of the book to express what he saw and felt. Then years later, as a father himself, and a graduate in fine arts, he contributed the fine artwork on the cover of the book and was responsible for establishing this website.
I hope you find the intrigue and curiosity which this book attempts to provide by discovering the "hidden treasures" in a land traveled by so many throughout the past 400 years.
